Florida XIII – some more birdsFlorida was so far the best birding experience in my short „career“ of wildlife photographer and only those living in avergae-bird-populated area in Europe can understand that feeling of amazement when entering for the first time the famous birding spots in Florida. After three weeks spent in Florida, from which ca. 10 I could use for bird photography, the memory cards were so full of pictures that it took me almost 8 months to go throug it and select the best images. There were hundreds and thousands of pictures that were delted – majority of a quality that one would keep if it was taken in Europe or elswhere. That is also the reason many wildlife photographers head every year to more or less exotic destinations, where the birds are more tame and where the effort to make beautiful image is nothing more than checking out the nearest pond.

And so it happened that I have found few more pictures that did not fit into any of the fourteen previous articles about Florida birdlife. It would be sad not to publish these pictures so here they are…
Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia) I made ca. 6 visits of the famous spot in Cape Coral but only the very last visit produced the Owl sitting on the perch. Most of the time the Owls were hidden in the underground burrows…
White Ibis (Eudocimus albus) One ore picture from the world-known spot in Little Estero Lagoon
Ring-billed Gull (Larus delawarensis) Taken at the beach of Sanibel Island…Boat-tailed Grackle (Quiscalus major) .. and only a while later this Grackel sat on the top of the tree and called…Black Skimmer (Rynchops niger) These pictures were taken at Bay Bunche Beach Reserve in Fort Myers – the birds were sitting still in the shallow waters so I tried to get them up. It was partialy successful as you can see but being in the cold water for ca. 2 hours made my muscles so stiff so I could hardly stand up and walk to my car...
Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus) Common raptor of Florida
Pied-billed Grebe (Podilymbus podiceps) One little beauty from Anhinga Trail
Belted Kingfisher (Megaceryle alcyo) Very shy bird – I have made only a few pictures from greater distance - Anhinga TrailNorthern Mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos) So this is the bird that Aretha Franklin is singing about – Loxahatchee Wildlife RefugeBlue Gray Gnatcatcher (Polioptila caerulea) One little passerine from the marshes of Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuge, West Palm Beach
