Beyond the camera – Edwin KatsI encountered the work of this talented photographer recently during browsing the Image critique forum at www.juzaphoto.com. Although Edwin is quite new on this forum, his pictures appear pretty regularly in the „Photo of the week” section of this website. For the first time I noticed his name when looking at his picture of a hedgehog – the photograph with great composition, nice water reflection, superb detail and fantastic colours – the picture looks almost like a “postcard shot” and one can doubt if such a nice shot can be done accidentally without previous scene set-up…let the author to keep his secret – all his work shows that Edwin is really watchful and patient photographer and that these beautiful pictures are definitely not coincidence. Edwin comes from Netherlands and has been photographing since 1992; he uses Nikon equipment…
We can read more about Edwin Kats at his website www.edwinkats-natuurfotografie.nl eg. what masking he uses when shooting wildlife and worth mentioning are for sure his successes in international photographic contests – first place in macro category of “2007 Nature Photographers Network Annual editor’s Awards” or his shot (and again macro!) in the NatureScapes contest “2007 Picture Of The Year Award”. Although it might seem, that Edwin’s specialization is macrophotography, he is doing with the same enthusiasm the photography of other wildlife and birds. He for example successfully published his beautiful pictures of bears and deer at www.juzaphoto.com.
Birds are amongst the others wildlife animals the most interesting objects for many photographers and Edwin is not an exception – his gallery is characterized by quality and not quantity but the most space is given to the pictures of birds.
